Product Description
Like many great cigar brands, EP Carrillo has roots in Cuba, where founder Ernesto Senior worked as a tobacco buyer and eventually purchased a small cigar factory. But when Castro seized power, he also seized assets – including Ernesto’s factory. The family fled to Miami, Florida. After years of toil towards establishing a new life, Ernesto Sr finally purchased another factory, this time in ‘Little Havana’. In 1980, Ernesto Jr took over the family business following the death of his father.
At that time, EP Carrillo cigars were limited to a series called La Gloria Cubana. Though they were well-received in Miami throughout the 1980’s, they failed to gain a national profile. But this changed in the early 90’s, when a new magazine called ‘Cigar Aficionado’ sprung up, and promptly bestowed high ratings on several LGC cigars. By the late 90’s, La Gloria Cubana was selling millions of cigars each year. It was an unqualified success.
In 2009, Ernesto Jr created the EP Carrillo company, which now boasts a portfolio of several different blends. And the praise has only intensified. After flirting with a top spot in Cigar Aficionado’s year-end list in 2014 – the La Historia E-III was named second best – they finally achieved this milestone in 2018, when their Encore Majestic was voted number one.
