Established in 1963, Te-Amo has developed a reputation in the past 50 years as the leading cigar brand in Mexico and is now distributed in 29 countries worldwide. Historically, all Te-Amo cigars used tobacco exclusively from the San Andrés Valley in Mexico, a region known for its combination of suitable climate and rich soil. However, with the Mexican government recently easing restrictions that allow for foreign tobaccos to be imported for use in Mexican cigars, there is more opportunity than ever to expand blending possibilities in Te-Amo cigars.
Te-Amo’s Revolution series reflects this change. In addition to use of San Andrés tobacco in all parts of the cigar, the filler also includes Nicaraguan tobacco leaf. This appears to have added an extra degree of complexity to the blend, as the Revolution Robusto Ovalado was soon named the 13th best cigar of the year on Cigar Aficionado’s ‘Top 25’ list of 2014. This was first Te-Amo to make the top 25 list, as the reviewer noted the ‘silky wrapper…with a core of leather, coffee and a spicy finish’. In other words, a bold and flavourful cigar worth the modest price.
