One of the more common ways to damage a pipe’s mouthpiece is to inadvertently bite down on it. This type of damage can occur whether the stem is made from acrylic or vulcanite, the two most frequent pipe stem materials.
Fortunately, this can be avoided by using what are commonly referred to as ‘soft’, ‘softy’, or just plain ‘rubber’ bits. At City Cigar, we carry the Brigham Soft Pipe Bits, which could be described as a half-inch long rubber ‘sleeve’. They are designed to fit snugly over the tip of any pipe mouthpiece, and to feel comfortable between the pipe smoker’s teeth. They are available in 2-packs, and can be re-used for several smokes before needing replacement.
