Pipes for Beginners
Although many pipes on the market sell for between $100 to $300, at City Cigar we make sure to always have a collection of quality pipes under $100 for new, unsure pipe smokers and/or those on a budget. In additon, our stock of good quality 'no frills' custom blend pipe tobacco, affordable tamping tools, pipe cleaners, and lighters means that you can have everything you need to get started at a surprisingly low price.
Although pipes were originally made from clay - and later substances like jade, agate, and the more practical meerschaum - the most common substance in modern times is briar wood. Meerschaum and clay pipes can still be found, though in much smaller quantities than briar pipes.
The 'starter' pipes listed below are made from either briar, brylon (synthetic briar) or meerschaum, with other differences between them being colour and shape. Also, our collection of sand-blasted pipes tend to be more affordable, as sand-blasting is the process the pipe goes through if a defect occurs during manufacture. Despite this, sand-blasted pipes are preferred by some smokers as it is said that the thickness of the bowl provides a cooler smoke (as well as ensuring against any future scratches).

Medico Pipes
Constructed from either imported Italian briar or 'brylon' (synthetic briar), the filtered Medico pipes are one of the most affordable beginner pipes currently on the market. Please note that availability of colours and shapes with the Medicos is currently limited at City Cigar.
Corn Cob Pipes
The most cost-effective beginner pipe available at City Cigar, our full-sized corn cob pipes currently retail for under $10. Besides the price, the advantage of a corn cob pipe is that it requires no 'break-in' period and it offers a cool, clean smoke.
